From Play to Practice: Open Education Award
My project "From Play to Practice" has been awarded the Open Education Incubator Fund by the Teaching Academy Groningen.
The premise: you can learn serious research skills by playing games. My MSc Speech Technology Research Design course already runs on game-based activities — a board game about research values, a LEGO reproducibility challenge, card-based ethics dilemmas — and the award lets me turn them into standalone, openly licensed resources any educator can pick up and run.
Students help build the materials, proposing new dilemmas and scenarios that carry forward to future cohorts, and everything ships under CC BY-SA, free to reuse and adapt. Thanks to the Open Education Community of Practice and my co-applicant Angelos Konstantinidis.
